OCT 28

Commercial Horror Movie Screening to follow the music.

Double punch

Double Punch

Here's Osamu Tezuka and Leiji Matsumoto drawing the same thing in different ways. One is clearly better! The worse one gets repeated in the exact same way 3 times in the book. In a way that creates a funny rhythm, which is good in its own way... but man, just look at the good one, wow!
...

PS So I picked up some Matsumoto manga, and generally don't like the drawings at all (I would call them: "ugly" and "bad"). I think his style changed a lot over time, but this particular book (Queen Emeraldas, 1978) does not feature stellar draftsmanship. Anyway lots of good things to say about Matsumoto...

Leijiverse!

Any Leiji Matsumoto fans among us? Fellow bloggers or commenters? I have never read his stuff but want to start. Where should I begin? Please tell me what you like of his!

Actually, scratch that, I have read the newer series of Galaxy Express 999, which I really didn't like so much, mainly because I could tell I had missed out on a lot. It takes place after the original series, which I didn't realize existed when I bought it. Maybe I should start there, but if you have something you're enthusastic about I'd love to hear it.

He's the guy who animated the Daft Punk videos!

Visible Matter (Above Ground)

Under the floorboards, over the fence, behind the wall there is a separate zone teaming with energy and decay. A world with language, behavior, culture (both ancient and contemporary), and physical limits different from those of our own. Noel Freibert and Carlos Gonzales are traders and ambassadors between this foreign zone and ours. They bring back stories and artifacts and sell them to the mass market in limited editions.

As a result of either our own irresponsibility and misfortune or perhaps of these young men's diligent work, the differences between these zones are diminishing and increasingly difficult to define.

Who is in control? What dark hand guides our fortune? By whose rules should we abide? Are we capable of expelling these new feelings or must we come to terms with them? These questions will not be answered at "Visible Matter (Above Ground)" Opening 7pm November 6, 2010 at Open Space Gallery, 2720 Sisson Street.

Kobe sketches

Hey Conor cool sketches man. I always like to think about ol' Whats-his-name in Life Drawing class telling you, "You know, this is almost, ahh, obsessive!" ... although these are more square-style than circle-style.

Here are some sketches I made this week of downtown Kobe. I'm gonna draw a comic that happens there. So, maybe these same objects and spots will appear again.

Digital creations of mine

Hey where did everyone go? I'll liven up the place with some vulgar cartoons.

These two were rejected from the New Yorker, guess next time I'll include a caption???

Rejected from Playboy, not as classy as the NYer so I submitted pokemon with dicks:
